About The Book

Students who use Chemistry: The Molecular Nature of Matter, Seventh Edition as a text are suppled with the instruction, practice and assessment they need to progress in a general chemistry course. This text supports students’ efforts to analyze, solve problems and master the concepts related to chemical phenomena. The edition features updates to key concepts and additional multi-concept problems and examples. The author also focuses on the relationship between structure at the submicroscopic molecular level and the observable macroscopic properties of matter. For readers, this textbook serves as a concise and easily understood chemistry resource. Neil D. Jespersen is a Professor of Chemistry at St. John’s University in New York. He earned a B.S. with Special Attainments in Chemistry at Washington and Lee University(VA), and his Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State University, specializing in Analytical Chemistry. He has received awards for excellence in teaching and research from St. John’s University, where he chaired the Department of Chemistry for 6 years. He mentored the St. John’s student ACS chapter for over 30 years while continuing to teach Quantitative and Instrumental Analysis courses, along with General Chemistry. He has been an active contributor to the Eastern Analytical Symposium, chairing it in 1991. Neil authored the Barrons AP Chemistry Study Guide; has edited 2 books on Instrumental Analysis and Thermal Analysis; and has 4 chapters in research monographs, 50 refereed publications, and 150 abstracts and presentations. He is active at the local, regional and national levels of the American Chemical Society, and served on the ACS Board of Directors and was named a Fellow of the ACS in 2013.
